Somdal Women celebrate 80th Anniversary

The 80th anniversary of Somdal Baptist Church Women Society kicked off on Tuesday evening with ceremonial remembrance of the Christian pioneers and reflections of the past glory of the village women.
Evoking the theme of ''Higher Call,'' the four-day programme started with hoisting of anniversary flag by SBCWS former chairperson RV Ngalashingai amidst a large gathering at Somdal Church.
In remembrance of the first woman teacher in the village late Zingkangla who was the wife of former Member of Parliament R.Suisa, Somdal women dedicated a specially designed Mekhala ''Zingkangla'' as ''anniversary kashan.'' The inaugural session was also memorable with ceremonial lighting of 80 candles inside the Church hall.
Womenfolk from different Tangkhul churches and Christian organisations took part in the programme.
The anniversary is conspicuous by the attendance of Pakahao Muivah, wife of NSCN (IM) supremo Th.Muivah.
The SBCWS, it may be recalled here, was founded in 1923 .
Since then, the village women have been steadfastly carrying on with their mission works and philanthropic services at various places in India's northeast and Somra areas of Myanmar.
In the inaugural service, TBCA executive secretary Rev.Yarngam Muivah exhorted the congregation.
The SBCWS chronology was also read out by former chairperson Rs.Worthingla.
Earlier, SBCWS chairman Sr.
Ninghanla and Somdal pastor Rev.Aping Khamrang delivered the welcome address.
