A wind-solar hybrid power project of 20 kilowatt power generation capacity was inaugurated at Phungyar sub-divisional headquarter of Ukhrul district today by chairman of the Manipur Renewable Energy Development Agency (MANIREDA), AN Jha, who is also Principal Secretary (Finance and Forest) and handed over to the villagers.
The micro power project was installed by MANIREDA as part if its efforts to electrify villages in remote areas of the state.
Deputy Commissioner in-charge of Ukhrul district, Sudan and general secretary of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), Victor Keishing attended the function as president and guest of honour.
AN Jha was the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, AN Jha informed that construction of the project which would benefit the villagers of Phungyar and its neighbouring areas was started in June this year and completed in October.
Expressing satisfaction over the support extended by the villagers, the Agency was able to complete the two projects of 10 kilowatt capacity each within the stipulated time.
He praised the villagers for their co-operation.
Without the support of the people, any project or developmental works will not be possible taken up successfully, Jah said adding that in the last around two years there were marked changes towards development.
However, he said, development is marked by conditions of road communication, water and power positions.
That was why government is giving emphasis in the development of roads, power and water supply schemes.
MANIREDA with its best efforts is trying to electrified villages of the state in the remote areas with solar and wind based power generation projects, he added.
DC in-charge Suda speaking as president of the function called upon people support in taking up various developmental schemes and projects observing that with the full co-operation of the people, the power generation project inaugurated today was successfully taken up.
The solar-wind hybrid project in the sub-divisional headquarter was taken up by MANIREDA with the funding from the Department of North East Region.
The project will supply power to around 200 household.
