Fifteen-day basic course in news reporting was inaugurated today at the Manipur Press Club hall under the aegis of State Institute of Journalism, Directorate of Information and Public Relations, Government of Manipur.
The inaugural function of the training course was graced by Commissioner of IPR, P Bharat, Director of DIPR, T Sitlhou, retired IIS officer and former news editor of AIR, Imphal, Seram Mangi, Deputy Director of AIR, Imphal and consultant of RNU, AIR, Imphal, BB Sharma, Chief Editor of Kangla Pao, P Ibochou and Imphal's correspondent of The Telegraph, Khelen Thokchom as the chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, P Bharat observed that media have great role in bridging the information gap between the people and the government in a democratic state.
He said, the course will provide an edge to all trainees.
He urged the trainees to pay in-depth attention to the teaching to be given by experienced journalists of the state.
Thirty trainees have been enrolled for the course.
Ten experienced journalists will take classes during the 15-day training course.
Retired IIS officer and former news editor of AIR, Imphal, Seram Mangi taught Mass Communication and its components on the first day of the course.
Former editor of Prajatantra, K Madhumangol will deliver a lecture on Journalism-its different fields and consultant of AIR, Imphal, BB Sharma will deliver a lecture on News-meaning, concept, sources, news value.
The Imphal correspondent of The Telegraph, Khelen Thokchom will speak on News writing for Various Media specially for print media.
Editor of Hueiyen Lanpao (English edition), Brozendra Ningomba will speak on Investigation and crime reporting while SP, Imphal East, Th Radhesyam will speak on Police-Public Relations-Role of Mass Media.
Editor of evening daily Kangla Pao, P Ibochou will speak on Sports News-Style of writing and technique.
Editor of Hueiyen Lanpao (Manipuri edition), Ratan Luwangcha will speak on Photo-journalism-its prospects while editor of Ereibak, Arun Irengbam will speak on Ethics of Journalism.
PRO of Manipur University and former head in-charge of MU's Journalism and Mass Communication Department, M Saratchandra will speak on Public Relations.
