Wheel chairs, hearing aids, artificial limbs and hands, tricycle etc.
have been distributed to the people with disabilities by the office of the district disability rehabilitation centre today in a function held at Kangshang at Khuman Lampak Sport Complex.
The function was attended by state social welfare and agriculture minister, N Loken as chief guest.
Commissioner of social welfare, Letkhogin Haokip, secretary, adult education, KK Chhetry, Imphal east DC, M Lakshmikumar and director of social welfare Sharatkumar also attended as guest of honours.
State social welfare and agriculture minister, N Loken who attended the distribution function as chief guest appealed the general people to treat well the people with disability equally with other normal persons.
People with disabilities should not be look down by the people.
Disability people should also not look down themselves thinking that they are weaker than normal person.
People should always extend help to them, he added.
KK Chhetry speaking on the occasion observed that people becoming handicapped by guns and other weapons used in killing people are on the raise.
So, there is the need for imparting education based on the helping in the rehabilitation works of the handicapped people.
People living with disabilities need to know that all people in the globe are having mentally disabled.
Every human being has mental disability and mental defect in one way or other.
Problems ahead of the people with disabilities are a very small issue compare to other problems facing in the globe.
Only when people with disabilities tried their best effort to do thing what they wanted, they could lead a happy life, Chhetry added.
M Laxmikumar said, the role of the handicapped people in the society is very important.
So they should not think themselves down from others.
On the occasion, 25 wheel chairs, 33 hearing aids were distributed to the people with disabilities from Imphal east district, 24 wheel chairs and 27 hearing aids were given to the people of this category hailing from Imphal west.
Five artificial limbs, three calipers and two tricycles were also given to the people selected from two districts.
Taking advantage of the function, organizers informed that people with disabilities who enrolled with the DDRC can turn up to its office at Porompat for availing the benefits of getting disability aids.
