Imphal, December 26 2012:
Most of the doctors, paramedical and maintenance staff of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences have been unable to attend office due to the ongoing general strike and curfew and sincere appeal not to obstruct the employees while attending office has not been heeded to.
In a statement, Media Advisor of RIMS pointed out that as a result it has become increasingly impossible to run the hospital with the skeleton staff, that too without power and water.
Apart from attending to the ailing persons in the Out Patient Department and wards there are round the clock admissions of emergency cases including those who are injured in the ongoing confrontations.
Water has to be delivered daily in water tankers for use in the hospital and offices.
The injured persons and those who need urgent medical attention have to be rushed to the hospital.
As the maintenance staff cannot attend office faulty power supplies cannot be set right.
The power shutdown has affected various hospital works including urgent and unavoidable operations.
RIMS once again appeals to the organisors not to obstruct the employees.
Besides the law enforcing officials should allow the bona fide employees free movement during curfew.
