Imphal, August 22 2010:
A former militant, later joined the state force as rifleman of the 4th IRB, was shot dead by gunmen at about 10.30 pm last night at Kongba Nongthonbam Leikai under Porompat police station of Imphal east district.
The bullet riddled dead body of the rifleman, Md Shalauddin (33) son of late Iboyai of Lilong Hangamthabi, was found lying at a spot near a primary health centre today morning by locals who then informed the police.
Both hands of the slain man were found tied at the back by a cloth.
A bullet injury mark hitting the left cheek and exiting on the right side was found on the body.
According to the family of the deceased, after being an activist of PULF for 10 years, Shalauddin surrendered to the state government in 2001 and was inducted as rifleman in the 4th IRB in 2003.He was recently transferred to 2nd Manipur Rifles where he was posted at the at the SP-Coy.
His rifleman No.is 405581 .
He is survived by his wife, three daughters and a son.
Police as well as the family is yet to know the motive behind the killing.
Police retrieved the dead body of the rifleman in the morning and was handed over to the family after postmortem was conducted at JNIMS morgue.
In the meantime, identities of the two KCP (MC) activists slain by troops of 26 Assam Rifles in an encounter at Boljang village under Sapermaina police station on August 20 night were established today.
They were identified as Ningthoujam Dhaneshwor @ Khoppa (31) of Lilong Chajing and Khaidem Nikki @ Rock (23) son of late Kh Biju of Thambalkhong.
Postmortem of Dhaneshwor was performed today at RIMS morgue where both the bodies are being kept.
