A strong windstorm on Tuesday night caused havoc to several villages in Churachandpur devastating almost 200 houses, mainly in the interior sub-divisions of Singngat and Henglep.
The storm that swept across the district at around 10 pm on Tuesday damaged 85 houses in Singngat proper, 11 in Thadou Veng, 11 in Vengnuom, eight even in Khomunnuom, seven in Saichang, eight in Jabellei, five in Jalenphai, 15 in Tangpijawl, 10 in Hiangtam, 5 in Hiangtam and 10 in Teikot.
Other structure hit the storm in Singngat A/C, according to sources include the AR and Army posts at Singngat and Muallum, PCI (R) Sunday School in Singngat and the EBC Church there.
Singngat MLA T Hangkhanpau today visited the villages that were devastated by the storm and promised them to rebuild the losses through the centrally sponsored IAY scheme or through his local development fund.
He also handed over some monetary assistance to the victims as an interim aid.
The storm also caused innumerable damages to Munpi village in Henglep sub-division with the sole MPCS mission school and its hostel flatten to the ground.
Nine other structures, most of them residential buildings were also damaged during the fury said the village chief.
In Tamenglong district, 18 houses and newly built community hall at Taosang Khullen village were damaged by a strong storm on the night of April 16 and 17, said a press release issued by the secretary of the village authority.
