Imphal, May 14 2011:
Alleging lack of quality control in the ongoing black topping work on NH 39, the Senapati District Students' Association (SDSA) has warned that they would be compelled to close down all machinery and stop work if government fails to deal with the matter urgently.
A statement of the SDSA signed by general secretary, LR John, expressed strong concern and dismay over the quality of work in the on-going black topping of NH 39 .
The statement said, the association will fight vigorously to improve the lifeline of the state and that after a series of spot inspections, it was shocking to find potholes and cracks already appearing after less than two months of completion of the work.
In a loud and clear message to the government, concerned minister, concerned department, contractors and workers, the SDSA warned that they will not spare any lack of quality.
Non-implementation of development funds has damaged the much anticipated "finally developed & improved NH 39," the statement asserted.
The statement pointed out that the coming monsoon will disrupt the whole work, thus worsening even the already completed work in some areas.
The work between Maram and Senapati manifested a poor quality of work and many portions of the highway between Maram and Mao remained in tattered and deplorable condition much against the desire of the general public of the state.
It is disheartening to learn that the concerned engineers and the department concerned accepted the status of the works and also implying that the works are already completed, the statement went on to say.
If the state government and concerned department fails to look into the issue without delay, the SDSA will close down all machinery and stop work on NH 39 until visible quality improvements are taken up "seriously and urgently", the statement reiterated.
