Mobility assistance for handicapped tourists mooted

The state government should ensure mobility assistance to physically challenged tourists at hotels, resorts, banks and other tourist destinations, observed Sumita, who is among the travelers of Vijay Merchant Rehabilitation Centre for the Disabled (VMRCD) .
The travellers arrived at Imphal yesterday.
They had set out from Mumbai on September 20 on a mission of covering eight state capitals and 40 cities before winding up their travel on December 20 .
Talking to mediapersons at Hotel Imphal, North AOC here today, Sumitra informed that in all 16 of them including four helpers and staffs of VMRCD have set on the mission of covering 1600 kms by road and they completed 9460 kms when they entered Manipur yesterday.
About their mission, Sumita said that it is to create awareness among the people on the problem of physically challenged persons and
to meet government officials as well as representatives of NGOs in this regard.
Sumita emphasized that to encourage physically challenged tourists; the government should ensure mobility assistance to them at hotels, resorts, banks and other tourist destinations.
Moreover, the government should give special attention to the education and employment of physically challenged persons so as to make them self-reliant and rehabilitate them in the society.
Only then physically challenged persons would also be able to contribute their mite in the society.
Arvind, another traveller, informed that Imphal is the 17th state capital they have covered so far.
He also expressed happiness over the visits made to various tourist places in Manipur today and the help extended by the local people during these visits.
