Troops of Assam Rifles killed a PLA cadre even as a rifleman of the Manipur Rifles along with a woman were nabbed by a team of Manipur Police Commandos and recovered 24 saving bank accounts with fake names in separate counter insurgency operations in the state during the last 24 hours.
Troops of 8 AR posted at Sajik Tampak, Chandel district handed over a bullet riddled dead body to Lamphel police, Imphal.
The body is said to be that of a rebel killed in a gunfight with the troops late yesterday evening.
While handing over the dead body, Assam Rifles informed that he was killed in a gunfight which occurred at Tuitam Khongkhai village under Chakpikarong police station in Chandel yesterday morning at about 3.30 am.
AR also claimed recovery of an M-16 rifle with five magazines containing 100 live rounds, a rucksack and a pouch from the slain suspect, a police officer here said today.
The dead body has been transferred to RIMS morgue for official identification, the officer said.
In another counter insurgency operation launched by Bishnupur police commandos, a personnel of 8th Manipur Rifles along with a woman were arrested as activists of KCP (MC) Lamngakpa group.
The rifleman Md Salatur Rahaman (24), son of late Md Tomba of Lilong Haoreibi Awang Leikai and the woman activists of KCP (MC) Lamngakpa group Ningombam Premila Devi @ Ibecha @ Victoria (35), wife of N Boyai of New Bazar, Churachandpur were apprehended during a two-day long operation on Sunday and Monday, Bishnupur SP Konsam
Jayenta said.
Alleging that they were active members of the KCP(MC) Lamngakpa group, the SP further said that during the course of verification and investigation, they revealed that the arrested cadres are working directly under one Oinam Shyam Singh (32), son of O Gourakishore of Kumbi Awang Leikai for the last one and a half year and actively involved in collection of extortion money from general public and transactions of the extorted money to various cadres of the outfit.
Further, it is revealed that the duo managed to open as many as 24 saving accounts by using fake names and address in SBI, Bishnupur Branch and Punjab Sind Bank, Irilbung Branch.
Eighteen of them were opened at SBI while remaining six is in Punjab and Sind Bank.
Further investigation is on to find out how transaction is being carried out among saving account holders after registering a case at Moirang police station, he added.
