IN AN appalling incident, four members of a family have been injured by a ghastly fire that flickered in their house when splitting petrol of a loose cap bottle caught fire this evening around 7.10 at Khabam Makha Leikai under Heingang Police station.
The hospitalised family members were Phijam Chaoba (52) son of (L) Ph Chandrahas, Phijam ongbi Dasumati (47) wife of Chaoba, Ph Rameshore (31) son of Chaoba, and Ph (O) Dhaneshori (30) wife of Rameshore.
According to report, the unfortunate incident occurred when Chaoba accidentally crumbled the loosely cap petrol bottle, which the family kept for emergency use for their Maruti Van- used as school van transporting children.
The spilled petrol which caught flames from the lantern spread around instantly trapping Chaoba.
All the family members suffered burnt injuries one after another as their clothes hanging on their bodies' bewitched fire in their concerted efforts to save Chaoba from the fire instantaneously.
Chaoba and his step-daughter Dhaneshori are said to be in a critical condition at RIMS Hospital, according to doctors who attended the wounded patients while the condition of Dasumat and Rameshore is said to be static.
Apart from them, a portion of their house has also been reduced to ashes.
