With the Outer Manipur MP, Mani Cheranamei failing to provide details over the implementation of Rs 10 crores of the outer Manipur MP Local Area Development Fund, the Concern Citizens for Development of Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency has decided to seek the help of the CBI in probing the alleged embezzlement of fund.
Addressing reporters today at the Manipur Press Club here, the Spokesman of the CCD of Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, Athon Abonmai said that the outer Manipur MP, Mani Cheranamei has been given ten days from March 1 to furnish the details over the implementation of the Rs 10 Crores of the MPLAD fund.
He said the MP maintained silence instead of specifying the implementation of the fund in question.
According to report collected after detailed investigation and documentation, the amount sanctioned for the Local Area Development Fund for the state district-wise is Rs 1,16,85,000 for Ukhrul, Rs 46,80,000 for Churanchandpur, Rs 84,91,300 for Chandel, Rs 2,06,30,000 for Tamenglong, Rs 8,60,000 for Thoubal, and Rs 6,00,000 for Senapati, Athuan Abonmai pointed out.
Athuan also charged that Rs 1, 65,000 sanction order was issued for the extension of the community hall of Soraland Village in Senapati district on January 12 last.
Some amount has also been drawn again on February 16 in the name of Songreiphai village.
He also charged that an amount was drawn by claiming a project similar to the one taken up in Senapati by claiming the same in Ukhrul on January 12, 2006.He accused that an amount of Rs 5 lakh was drawn by falsifying the construction of the Rani Road along NH 53 in Tamenglong which had been completed under the fifth phase of PMGSY in 2005-06. He also alleged that the MP has drawn funds for similar projects in Senapati on June 23, 2008 just after drawing a total of Rs 19 lakhs on June 6 the same year by making false claim while also citing other instance of fraud committed by the MP.
Abonmai also said that the total amount of funds drawn by the MP for a total of 400 schemes is Rs 9, 88, 67,300.He said that the accusation is not made due to personal enmity while saying that this has been done to prevent other coming MPs from committing such evil against the interest of the development of the hill areas.
