Imphal, October 16 2010:
No new women vendors will be given place in the three market sheds of Khwairamband Bazar.
Hectic efforts are on to see their inauguration takes place by November this year.
According to officials of the Planning and Development Authority (PDA), the three multi-storey market complexes are being planning to be inaugurate by November first week.
Finishing touches are being taken up by the authority to achieve the end, they said.
PDA officials said that the ground floor of the three market sheds will be kept reserved for license holding women vendors who occupied spots in the three market sheds, Purana, Luxmi and New Market sheds.
No advantage will be given to new vendors in these three places.
A proposal will be included in the reports prepared by a committee formed by the government to look into the allocation of stalls to the vendors in these three market sheds.
They will also provide the number of vendors that can be allocated for each shed.
Mention may be made that there is already a committee constituted by the government to look into the allocation stalls to the vendors.
It is chaired by PDA chairman, MLA Ksh Loken.
MLAs O Joy, N Mangi, L Nandakumar, Radhabinod Koijam are the members.
The committee held at least two rounds of meetings but no concrete decision on how to distribute the stalls to vendors has been taken, the source said.
The third round of meeting will be held tomorrow.
The meeting will also discus on the facilities to be given to women vendors who will be given seats in the new multi-storey market complex.
On the other hand, a source from the Imphal Municipality Council said that before the demolition of the erstwhile three markets, vendors holding licences issued by the IMC authority only were allowed to seat in the three market sheds.
There will be no change in this procedure and only IMC licence holders will be allocated seats, they added.
