The sixth commemoration day of NK Sanajaoba was held today at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound.
Offering of floral tributes to the former editor of Lamyanba Journal marked the observance function.
The biennial investigative journalist award which is usually given to a journalist of the state was not given this year but organizers announced that fellowships will be given to five journalists who applied for the award.
Chairman of the NK Sanajaoba Memorial Observance Committee, Dr Lokendra Arambam who presided the commemoration function made the announcement during the function.
According to him, the five journalists to be given fellowships were L Samungou and S Bokuljaoba of Sangai Express, Kshetri Meghajit and Ningombam Nimol of Naharolgi Thoudang and S Sonia of Poknapham.
The fellowship amount and the period to be given will be announced later, Dr Lokendra said.
Further, he said that the committee decided to cancel giving investigative award and has replaced it by fellowships with the objective of encouraging journalists of the state to write on the social changes bring about by time and the impact given by it to the social structure of the state.
It is also aimed at broadening the area of coverage as the previous award concentrated only to a single field while the fellowships to be given will cover different fields, he asserted.
On the occasion the five journalists were honoured each with a special gift.
.KGunachandra, a columnist of Naharolgi Thoudang was also presented the special gift.
Release of a souvenir by chairman of the Manipur Cultural Integration Conference, Aribam Brajakumar who graced the function as chief guest and a talk on the life and work of NK Sanajaoba by noted writer Athokpam Tomchou also marked the observance function.
Veteran journalist, K Modhumangol attended the function as guest of honour.
