Imphal, February 05 2013:
Announcing commencing of their general strike from January 7 over their demand for a hike in their monthly salary, the agitated VDF personnel have decided to carry on their agitations with greater vigour if their demands are not considered even after the general strike.
Informing this while talking to media persons at Singjamei today, representatives of VDF Welfare Association reiterated that VDF personnel have been recruited by the State Government to look after maintenance of law and order situation in the State.
However, they are being used in the private works of their higher officers who treat them as servants.
Moreover, the meager amount of Rs 3,000 which is being provided as monthly salary to them is not in tune with the changing time where prices of essential commodities have touched the sky.
So, the aggrieved VDF personnel have laid down their service arms and launched a cease work strike from January 4, they explained.
The representatives further pointed out that they have even served an ultimatum to the State Government.
But no steps have been taken up till today.
If their demands are not met by January 6, the general strike would commence from January 7 and their agitation would go on until the demands are met.
While condemning the acts of Police officers in Thoubal where agitating VDF personnel are threatened to be sacked from service, the representatives of VDF Welfare Association made it clear that they would not be disheartened by such threats and their agitation would continue at all cost.
