Police charged of taking no action in assault case

With the police failing to take up appropriate action against an accused of a case registered with the Yairipok PS, the Human Right Law Network, Manipur today expressed disappointment and demanded delivery of justice to the victims.
The case was related with the assault of Md Arif Khan (23) of Yairipok Kekru, on February 26 by eight persons, all residents of the same village of Arif Khan.
Arif Khan was assaulted by eight persons, Md Kadir (55) son of Haji Md Ibocha, his son Md Sukur (30), Kadir's brother Md Iboton (42), Md Amirhamza (46) son of Late Md Abdul Gazi, Md Nazimuddin (46) son of Md Ibocha, Md Jahiya (27) son of Md Thoiba, Md Haji Hassan (48) son of Mst Manihajibi and Tulabi Bibi (20) daughter of Md Kadir, all residents of Yairipok Kekru.
Md Kadir who intends to contest the election in the next general election to state Assembly and his men assaulted Arif for allowing MLA K Meghachandra to his house, according to the complaint lodged by Arif to the police.
He said that the MLA visited his house for having a discussion on community development.
However, after the MLA left his house, the eight accused came to his house and assaulted him alleging him that even though he knew that Kadir is going to contest the election, he continued to be in touch with the MLA who would be his rival in the next election.
The mother of Arif who intervened on seeing her son being beaten up in merciless manner was also assaulted.
With grievous injuries, he and his mother were admitted at CHC, Yairpok, the complainant said.
Yairipok police registered a case against the eight accused in response to the complaint but no action has been taken up so far to deliver justice to the victims, Meihoubam Rakesh, director of Human Rights Law Network, Manipur told reporters today.
