A high level meeting on Wednesday has decided to acquire lands for the establishment of industrial growth centre which state cabinet recently decided to shift at Chingaren from Napet Pali, Lamlai, official source said.
The source said that meeting which chaired by the state industries minister, Y Erabot and attended by officials of the concerned commerce and industries department has decided to acquire the required 500 acres of land at Chingaren.
State revenue commissioner has been asked to take up necessary steps for enquiring the land.
The department is likely to process the land acquisition works in thee next few days, the source disclosed.
It can be mention that the land to be acquire is on the southern side of the Chingaren hill where currently under paddy cultivation and people of the area has been protesting against the move of the government.
But despite people objection, government move has indicated that authority is by any means will establish the centre at the place.
In 1999, during when W Nipamacha Singh was chief minister of the state, a decision to set up the industrial growth centre was taken and even the foundation stone had been laid.
But with the end of the Nipamacha led Manipur State Congress Party, MSCP before completion of its term, further process of the establishment of the work has been remaining unmoved for such along time and recently the SPF government led by O Ibobi started fresh process for setting up the process.
The matter for shifting the centre to Chingaren from Napet Pali was taken by the state cabinet on October 4 last.
Following the decision, industries department has also obtained clearance with regard to the shifting of the place, source said.
Regarding the shifting of the centre, source also said that even though the foundation stone was laid at Napet Pali, no process for land acquisition was taken up by the government.
Apart from this, farmers of the area also have no willingness to give their cultivable lands.
Government also not willing to set up the centre in the area as the area in located in the interior considering the prevailing law and order situation and bad road communication.
Hence decided to shift the location at Chingaren, the source said.
It is also pertinent to mention that for setting up the industrial growth centre in the state, Centre had sanctioned Rs.1.5 crore some year back.
But the same could be utilized
till date.
