Imphal, January 25 2010:
All JN Hospital doctors including those qualified for the post of Assistant Professor would be serving in Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Science (JNIMS) for three years in non-teaching section.
Even as JN Hospital doctors qualified to be Assistant Professors have been persistently urging the Government to absorb them in JNIMS as Assistant Professors without undergoing DPC, the Health and Family Welfare Joint Secretary issued an order on January 16 for utilisation of JN Hospital doctors in non-teaching category of JNIMS for three years.
According to a well placed source, any doctor desirous of quitting JNIMS during the three years' period of service in nonteaching category may do so.
However, the Joint Secretary's order mentioned that doctors serving in JNIMS in non-teaching category would not be allowed to leave the institute during the three years' period.
Eight grade-II posts and ten grade-III posts would be reserved in JNIMS so that doctors working under the State Health Service may join JNIMS in addition to JN Hospital doctors, said the order.
JN Hospital doctors as well as doctors under State Health Service would be allowed to apply during recruitment of teaching faculties in JNIMS in accordance to their qualification and experience.
Recruitment of Assistant Professors for JNIMS would be done through DPC or a selection committee, the order mentioned.
The Government's order issued at a time when doctors of JN Hospital have been insisting not to conduct DPC during absorption of JN Hospital medical staff and all other staff including those qualified for the post of Assistant Professor has caused much detestation among JN Hospital doctors.
Peeved with the Government's order, JN Hospital doctors have convened a meeting on January 29 to decide whether to join JNIMS or not.
In case, JN Hospital doctors decide not to join JNIMS, the efforts of the Government to commence the maiden session of the institute this year would be in serious jeopardy.
