Imphal, August 22 2010:
Differences in the demand of transfer of the SDO of Chakpikarong Sub-division of Chandel district surfaced today when the Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO), Gunpi Block, Chakpikarong defended the officer.
Strongly charging that the SDO/BDO Laramsonga of not attending office regularly and misappropriating developmental funds, three Anal based bodies had demanded transfer of the officer from the block.
Defending the SDO/BDO, leaders of the KSO, Gunpi Block told reporters at a press conference held at its office today that the charges were baseless and unfounded.
Citing that various tribes like Anal, Thadou, Baite, Gangte and Zou are settled with Kukis in this block of the Chandel district, they observed that Anals represent only 20 percent of the total population in the block.
In case of dissatisfactions in developmental and welfare programmes being taken up in the block by the SDO, consultations with other groups, must first be held, they observed.
When KSO investigated the charges levelled against the officer by the Anal Lengring Taongpi, Anal Chief Association and Anal Sinnu Ruwl, Chakpikarong branch, it was found to be not true.
The KSO appealed to the state government not to believe the false charges against the officer.
They further said that the SBI branch at Chakpikarong has been closed since some persons tried to withdraw money in the night when the working hours of the bank was over.
It is now functioning by attaching to the Kakching branch of the bank.
With people facing inconveniences after the closure of the bank, they urged all concerned not to resort to any kind of activities which will compel the government authority to shift the SDO office from its present location.
On the other hand, the gifting of solar lighting system to the seven villages of the Dinkpi area of Khengjoi block by MANIREDA with the joint initiatives of the local MLA, DC and SDO was lauded by chairman of the Kuki Chiefs' Association, Khengjoi Block, Tongkhthang Khongsai.
He also expressed welcome to any other developmental initiatives being taken up by the government through the district administration.
