Bomb hoax causes panic at Secretariat

Imphal, April 21 2012:
Normal activities at New Secretariat in Imphal were paralyzed for about two hours today after some employees came across a wrapped package in a waste basket which looked like a bomb.
A package wrapped with old newspaper and cello-taped was noticed by some employees inside a plastic waste basket near the staircase on the second floor which looked suspiciously like a bomb.
It created panic among the employees who fled outside the building leading to a halt in the normal activities in the Secretariat for nearly two hours.
Bomb expert rushed to the spot and tried to detect signs of a bomb using bomb-detecting equipments, but when no signs of a bomb could be detected, they took out the package from the waste basket and found that the package contained an empty bottle of a cough syrup (D-cut) .
High ranking police officials of the state like additional director general of police, V.Zathang, special secretary (Home), Clay Khongsai (IPS), and superintendent of police, Imphal West, Herojit, also rushed to the spot.
Imphal west police department has taken up a case regarding the bomb hoax and investigation into the case is going on, said a police source.
