Imphal, February 20 2009:
Taking serious note of the State Cabinet decision to table the Shree Shree Govindajee Temple (Third Amendment Bill) for the facilitation of merging all indigenous religion activities into Shree Shree Govindaji Temple Board during the state Assembly session in March, the Meetei National Front (MNF) Kangleipak expresses apprehension that the decision could be detrimental in the peaceful coexistence of Meetei Hindus and followers of indigenous Sanamahi religion of the land.
In a statement, the MNF vice-president, Th Wangamba Meetei today said that the decision of the power-that-be will be a wrong step in trying to devolve the authority of the indigenous religion that has been preserved despite attempts to abolish the faith.
The statement categorically said that decision of the Cabinet will amount to an effort to alter the Constitution of India by the Manipur government authority.
Basing on secularism, the MNF sternly expressed its opposition to the decision of handing over of indigenous religion affairs to the Shree Shree Govindaji Temple Board.
It may be recalled that the State Cabinet during its meeting on February 13 last, had approved to dissolve the Sanamahi Temple Board and integrate it with Shree Shree Govindaji Temple Board by tabling the Shree Shree Govindaji Temple Board third amendment Bill on March 17 during the Manipur Assembly session by passing it into an Act.
