Govt's commitment on Sadar hills district still stands: Ibobi

Along with inaugurating a newly constructed ADC complex of Sadar Hills, Chief Minister O Ibobi laid the foundation stones for SDO Tuyangwaichong sub-division, SDO Island sub-division, SDO Champhai sub-division, SDO Kangchup Geljong sub-division and SDC Lungtin circle office at Kangpokpi today.
Speaking on the occasion, Ibobi said that the commitment of the state government over Sadar Hills issue still stands and it would be converted into a full-fledged revenue district once the necessary process are completed.
However, the government would not tolerate any form of unlawful agitations by a handful of people.
He further said that inauguration of the ADC complex and laying the foundation stones of various SDO and SDC circle offices are being carried out in accordance to the understanding reached between the government and the SHDDC.
The Chief Minister observed that India is a democratic country and the people are free to press for their rightful demands in a lawful and constitutional manner.
We should live together peacefully, we all have to pass away one day or the other, he added.
The Chie Minister pointed out that a separate department needs to be established for maintaining the records of the hills areas of the state.
Since no records are maintained for the hill areas, the government has been facing a lot of problems.
The Chief Minister assured that a District Sports Complex will be set up in Sadar Hills very shortly and adequate security personnel will be deployed at the newly inaugurated ADC Complex.
He also appeals to the people to desist from imposing bandhs/blockades in the state so that developments works in the hills could be expedited.
Presiding over the function, Revenue Minister Th Devendra said that to grant district status to Sadar Hills is quite reasonable, and district hood should be granted to Sadar Hills prior to other district demands.
The function was also attended by Works Minister K Ranjit, Chairman of Hills Areas Committee Thangminlien Kipgen, MLA Haokholet Kipgen, ADC members and other government officials.
