Imphal, December 15 2009:
Villagers of Khoirupok village in Ukhrul district of the Manipur Tuesday demanded shifting of the Assam Rifles post from the village in a representation submitted to the state Chief Minister, O Ibobi.
The demand of shifting the AR post was among the five point charter of demand included in the representation which came up after the December 4 incident in which two villagers injured in a indiscriminate firing by the Assam Rifles.
On December 4 last, E-coy post of the AR in the village fired out guns and mortar shells after a search operation.
In that, two villagers H Matuiching (52) and S Huimi (53) injured by stray of bullets.
They are now undergoing treatment at the RIMS Hospital, Imphal.
A primary school teacher quarter, community, guest house, Anganwadi centre, weaving center, pastor quarter, church building and seven houses of the villages were also damaged due to mortar shells and bullets strikes.
Kasom Khullen Sub-division Development Association (KKSDDA) submitted the representation representing villagers of Khoirupok today submitted the representation.
Other demands of the villagers include provision of adequate compensation to the injure victims and houses and buildings damaged, to take up action against the 34 AR E-Coy involved in the firing and rededial measures to prevent recurrence of the incident in future.
It may be made that Manipur Human Rights Commission had registered a case regarding the incident after the KKSDDA lodged complaint with the commission and process for enquiry into the allegation of the villagers which contradict with official claimed that it was retaliatory action of the AR when the UGs launched a heavy attacked on the post.
