Tamenglong, April 11 2011:
Inspite of the strong opposition to the presence of the 11 AR by some Zeliangrong organisations, residents of Tamenglong today continued to show support and give cooperation to the 11 AR posted at Tamenglong which is taking up development works in the district especially for the womenfolk.
This was proved by some courageous women leaders who came out to explain the good works done by 11 AR in Tamenglong and which had been witnessed by them.
The Women Development Association for Tribal Area, Tamenglong today expressed their sincere gratitude to the 11 AR for providing a vocational training centre in the Women Upliftment Centre Tamenglong.
Appreciating the 11 AR for giving facilities to train and develop skills to the underprivileged women in the district, the Women Development Association for Tribal Area, Tamenglong today appealed to all to help in reopening the Women Upliftment Centre Tamenglong which had been kept locked since the 13 March incident.
On 13 March womenfolk had demanded that the 11 AR officials to release a NSCN-IM official arrested by them.
Relationships with the security forces and civilians had been affected since then.
The proprietor of the Women Upliftment Centre Tamenglong said that unlike other AR battalions, the 11 AR under the leadership of Col PS Chhonkar, SM, Commandant has worked in the interest of the people for peace, development and control of corruption in the district, a spokesperson said.
The spokesperson appealed to the 11 AR to reopen the vocational training centre, VTC and to continue to work for the under privileged women in the district.
She said many women in the district were poor and had led very difficult lives and that some women were managing their families by training and working in the Centre.
The prolonged shut down of the Centre, has immensely disturbed individuals who wish to learn and earn a little for their families, she said.
She and members of the Vegetables Vendor Society Tamenglong bazar appealed to all concerned to withdraw the proposed 24 hour bandh announced by AZSU for the sake of the poor people in the district.
