LED lamps for hill villages

The Department of Science and Technology has made necessary preparations to distribute LED reading lamps to villagers of the five hill districts which have been either not electrified or which do not get regular power supply under the Integrated Rural Energy Programme (IREP) .
An official source informed that the Science and Technology Department has submitted a proposal of Rs 33.75 lakhs to the State Government for purchasing 12,275 LED reading lamps from MANITRON during the current financial year.
The proposal was made with a view to ameliorate woes of remote villages, particularly students where kerosene lamps or candles are only source of lighting.
The LED reading lamps which the Science and Technology Department has proposed to buy from MANITRON are of the model STLP-I.These reading lamps run on three D-size dry cells and these cells would last from two to three months when used for three hours in a day.
LED reading lamp is a sort of multiple lighting device.
Selection of beneficiaries would be done by ADCs.
Families with girl students or weavers would be given priority.
