Unidentified persons suspected to be militants launched an unsuccessful bomb attack at the house of an official of the state fisheries department today.
Police recovered two hand grenades from the officer's house at Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai under Singjamei Police Station.
The two hand grenades were hurled at the house of Laishangthem Kumar of Heirangoithong Maibam Leikai this morning around 5 am.
He is serving as district fisheries officer in the state fisheries department and is posted at Imphal west district fisheries office.
Police seized the two bombs, one of which was found without its safety pin.
They said that the bombs were hurled to trigger a blast in connection with monetary demand by an underground group.
Decrying the act of threatening the official, womenfolk of the locality staged a sit-in protest starting from 11 am till 3.30 pm.
They strongly denounced the act of the militants hurling bombs at a populated area.
According to the wife of the officer Rashewori, no underground outfit had served any monetary demand to her family and said she condemned the act.
On the other hand, Imphal west police commandos arrested four underground activists in separate counter insurgency operations in the last two days, a statement of the Imphal west Senior SP, L Kailun said today.
Two of the nabbed activities were activists of different groups of KCP identified as Angom Tarachand @ Abung (30) of Uripok Yambem Leikai and Ningombam Boboi Meitei @ Boy (32) of Bashikhong Mamang Leikai.
They were apprehended at different operations at Indira Park and MU Gate, Imphal yesterday.
The two PREPAK activists were Oinam Abung (25) of Pungdongbam Makha Leikai and Asem Romen (21) of Chalou Mamang Leikai.
They were apprehended near the Adarsh Laboratory in the heart of Imphal, the statement added.
