Imphal, August 26 2011:
A silent public rally was organized by the JAC Against the Creation of Sadar Hills and Jiribam District (JACACSJD) under the initiative of UNC to register their strong objection to the attempt of the state government to bifurcate the land of Nagas through creation of Sadar Hills and Jiribam District.
The silent rally which was participated by village authorities, women associations and student bodies started from Noney bazar and proceeded towards the 10th AR post.
The rallyists turned back from the AR post and finally gathered at Noney bazar and organised a meeting.
The public rally and the meeting adopted a declaration which condemn the divide and rule policy of the state government which has always played the communal card and thrown the bone of contention between the tribals of the state.
The declaration further states that inspite of the four MoUs entered into by the Nagas in Manipur and the state government in 1981, 1982, 1996 and 1098 which underline the spirit that the "resolution to the conflict on the issue of Sadar Hills will be brought about through a consensus of the peoples concern in the interest of Bringing about lasting peace and harmony between the Nagas and Kukis", the state government has with duplicity once again engineered the space for carving out from the land of the Nagas without the knowledge and consent of the Nagas, pitching the tribals against each other.
Th Panmei, President, Rongmei Naga Council, Manipur, speaking at a press conference held after the public meeting said that the counter economic blockade carried out by UNC will come to an end immediately after SHDDC lifts its economic blockade.
He said that the Naga inhabited areas under Sadar hills are a minority.
They can hardly make their voices hard in this area.
The Kukis are demanding for a full fledged district of Sadar Hills means a separate Kuki district.
This certainly means that the indigenous land of the Nagas will be taken over by them altogether.
This cannot be tolerated at all.
Coming down to the issue of Jiribam district he said that for administrative convenience Jiribam is much better under Tamenglong district.
Areas under Tamenglong cannot be taken away and placed under the proposed Jiribam district.
Tousem sub division should also be under Tamenglong DFO.
The CrPC 144 imposed in Noney areas should be lifted immediately or else public agitation may rise, he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Chamrei Kamei, Convener JACACSJD, said that the JAC is not totally against the creation of a separate Sadar Hills district.
What it wants is a tripartite talk between the government, Nagas and Kukis before coming down to any sort of conclusion.
He further said that whatever be the case, not an inch of Naga territory will be allowed to come under the propose Sadar Hills district.
