The near total solar eclipse of this century was seen in Manipur with 93.5 per cent of the surface of the sun covered by the shadow of the moon on Wednesday at 5:37 a.m.Solar eclipse was observed in Manipur University organized by the department of Physics and department of Library Science under the leadership of Prof H Nandakumar Sharma, of Manipur University.
Several scholars, students and teachers participated in the observation of the longest total solar eclipse.
H Nandakumar Sharma said that the solar eclipse was partial with 93.5 per cent of the surface of the sun covered by the shadow of the moon from 5:37 a.m to 7:38 a.m.in Manipur and the maximum area of the surface of the sun was reported to be eclipsed at around 6: 28 a.m."Initially we were anxious if we could view the longest solar eclipse of the 21st century owing to the monsoon, but fortunately the solar eclipse could be viewed in Manipur as well", expressed the
professor.
A report from Senapati district of Manipur where hundreds of people eagerly waited for looking the partial solar eclipse disappointed as they could not witnessed the same.
People mostly students gathered at places schools at the uphill where they think like suited to watch the longest solar eclipse of the century.
The first Annular Solar Eclipse of the year 2009 occurred on January 26 last.
The eclipse of the sun was visible partially in Manipur.
