Imphal, November 18 2010:
A great impact was felt in the academic atmosphere of students in government schools since teachers under the Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) started a cease work strike from November 15 .
Teachers under the COTA enforced the cease work strike to press the state government to translate into work the agreement of provding revised pay bands recommended by the sixth Pay Commission and rectification of pay anomalies.
The strike has affected the academic atmosphere in government schools, observed the All Manipur Students' Guardians, Organisation while making an appeal to the government as well as to the teacher to bring an agreement to end the strike.
Briefing media persons today at the AMSGO office, Palace Compound, working president N Chaoba insisted the government to translate the agreed demand into work justifying that it will not be fair to violate the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
The ultimate consequence of government apathy towards the teachers will be felt by the students.
Government should also keep in mind that teachers take a major role in shaping society.
President Rev Rehang Chothe who also attended the briefing expressed concern over the strikes' unending impact on students.
The ruling government is doing nothing for the betterment of the society.
Government it seems does not take care of students.
Meanwhile, the All Manipur Hill Teachers' Association (AMHTA) has extended support to the COTA's ongoing cease work strike and they will continue to support it until the implementation of the sixth Central revised pay in toto.
AMHTA will close all elementary and higher secondary level schools in hill districts until government issues the necessary orders and is handed over to COTA, AMHTA stated in a statement signed by its president and general secretary jointly.
