The fourth death anniversary of renowned 'Manipuri modern song' singer, Nongmaithem Pahari was observed today at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound.
The opening function was marked by a presentation of Pahari's evergreen song "Khomlang Laman Singamloi" by noted singers, Sagolsem Bishwarup and Thongam Ibochou during which people attending the function paid floral tributes to the pioneer of the Manipuri modern song.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, akademi award winner Elangbam Joychandra said that, Pahari has got a special place in the state of Manipur.
His songs which have their own special characteristics and charm will remain forever in the minds of the people.
Pahari's death has been a great loss for Manipur and the gap that left by his death will be difficult to be bridged, he added.
In his speech as president of the function, lyricist B Jayentakumar termed Pahari as a legend of Manipuri modern song.
He possessed the special qualities of being a great singer.
He was not only a singer but also
a true patriot.
Nongmaithem Pahari, breathed his last in 2006.After his death,the Pahari Memorial Trust has been observing his death anniversary every year starting from 2007 on this day (October 18).A biennial song competition is also held regularly.
As part of the anniversary function, Sagolsem Indramani presented a paper on Pahari, as a singer (Saknairaba Seisakpa Ama Oina Nongmaithem Pahari) and N Kumar on Pahari as a patriot (Mareibak Ningba Ama Oina Pahari) .
Sagolsem Bishwarup and Thongam Ibochou presented Pahari's songs on the occasion.
