'Politicians behind delay in declaration of Sardar Hills as full-fledged district'

Because of politicians' politics, the conversion of Sardar hills into a full-fledged revenue district of the state is still pending, lamented retired Inspector General of Police Ngamkhohen Kipgen today, speaking as chief guest of the concluding function of the Seikeng-Lalminlen Memorial Trophy, 2011 .
The football trophy, donated in the name of Seikeng and Lalminlen who died in an agitation of the people demanding conversion of Sardar hill as a full-fledged revenue district of the state, was organized by the Keithelmanbi Youth Association (KYC) in collaboration with District Sport Association.
The function was held at Keithelmanbi Upper Ground.
He said that all communities are residing in parts of the Sardar hills and they are still living harmony.
There is no question of discriminating minority communities or tribes in the areas of Sardar hills by major community or tribe.
There was no dispute over the boundary demarcation for the Sardar hills with other neighbouring district.
Government has agreed to the formation of Sardar by parting Saitu, Kangpokpi and Saikhul sub-division of Senapati district many years back.
There will be no objection in the declaration of the Sardar hills as a full-fledged revenue district of the state.
Government must declare it at earliest as government had already constituted a separate Autonomous District Council (ADC) of the Sardar hill, he opined.
Government might have declared it as full-fledged revenue district many years back but it has been delayed as some politicians are playing politics to get support from the people, he observed and appealed to the politicians to leave such a mean-minded attitudes and work in the interest of the people.
The demand for full-fledged revenue district is not in the interest of people of Sardar hill only and government should treat as people demanding their rights, Ngamkhohen Kipgen went on to say.
Chungkham Haokip, president of the Kuki Inpi Manipur (Sardar Hills) presided over the function in which special contractor, Dilip attended as guest of honour.
In the tournament, commenced from February 23 last, 12 teams competed for the trophy.
The final match was played between Avenger and Shongtal.
After attending the function, the retired IGP, who is an aspirant of contesting in the forthcoming Assembly election, performed a prayer ceremony at Tuijang village under Kangpokpi A/C along with his family and people of the area.
Later, speaking to reporter, he said that he is determined to contest the election considering for the deprived people of Kangpokpi A/C.He alleged that MLAs from the A/C had been diverting funds meant for taking up welfare works of the people to their pockets.
He wanted to teach lesson to them, he said.
