Imphal, August 09 2009:
The working Committee of the Apunba Lup (WCAL) today appealed to all the people of Manipur to join tomorrow's mass rally as part of the series of protest agitations being launched against the Khwairamband market firing of July 23 .
A press release issued today by the WCAL informed that groups of people who come from different directions will submit a memorandum to the Governor of Manipur around 11 am.
Necessary preparation are already made, the press release stated.
The memorandum will contain the demands of the Apunba Lup that "CM must resign on moral ground; Award befitting punishment to the guilty police commandos; Representatives of Apunba Lup must be released without any condition".
The press release further stated that it is shameful for the Chief Minister, O Ibobi to stick to his chair till now.
Whatever he might say about the Khwairamband market killing, it was an incident from which the police commandos can not escape.
The Apunba Lup appealed to the people of Manipur to join and fight together as one in the present situation.
The recent incident has become an outlet for the sentiments welling up in the hearts of the people for a long time to erupt as a volcano.
Let the chapter of O Ibobi be wound up now and here, and it is time a new leader was replaced, the Apunba Lup stated.
The Apunba Lup expressed its surprise over the silence of the Congress party at such a juncture.
The Apunba Lup resented that its leaders were treated as criminals after arrest and remanded in judicial custody.
This is a repressive and excessive act of the government under the dictatorship of O Ibobi where there is no rule of law, it said.
