Troops of 12 Maratha Light Infantry of 9 Sector reportedly gunned down a suspected under-ground cadre while another team of the same MLI unit apprehended a KCP (MC) activist from different places.
A PRO IGAR (S) release said MLI troops came under fire when about three persons moving suspiciously at Ikop Pat area were asked to stop for verification at around 3 am today.
One of the UG suspect was gunned down in retaliatory firing while the others managed to escape, maintained the PRO and listed one Chinese 9 mm pistol with five live rounds, one Chinese hand-grenade, four fired cases of 9 mm and a mobile phone as items recovered from the slain individual whose body has been over to Mayang Imphal police station at around 8 am.

The PRO release also identified the arrested KCP (MC) activist as one Achouba Singh (21) son of Ibopishak Singh of Pukhrambam.
Achouba, who was arrested during the course of a search operation conducted by the MLI troops at Pukhrambam area at around 1.30 pm of July 5, has been handed over to nambol police station later in the same afternoon.
Meanwhile, troops of 31 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector have reportedly recovered 536 live rounds of AK 47 rifle, 30 7.62 mm CTN, ten 9 mm balls, six rounds of lathode, three Kenwood sets and three small battery chargers.
It is informed that the seizures were made during search of a Maruti Van (MN04A/4423) at Khudengthabi check post with the said consignment found to be carried by one Hemkhopao Touthang of Moreh Ward No 2.Based on input provided by the individual follow-up operations were launched in Moreh Town leading to recovery of 85 live rounds of AK 47 ammunition and cash worth Rs 1.5 lakhs, added another PRO IGAR (S) release.
The apprehended person alongwith the recovered items are being handed over to Imphal West police station, it maintained.
