Minister furious on seeing tardy work progress on NH-53

Works minister K Ranjit today expressed displeasure over the tardy pace of road improvement work along the NH-53 taken up by the Border Road Organisation (BRO) and asked them to surrender if they are not in the condition of not meeting the targeted period.
A team led by the minister and comprising MLA Dr E Dwijamani, PWD Principal Secretary Ram Muivah, Chief Engineer Loken and officials of the PWD are on tour to Jiribam on the Imphal-Jiribam section of the NH-53 to inspect the progress of the road improvement work.
After inspecting the road condition, the team met with the officials of the BRO.
expressing his dissatisfaction on the slow progress of work, the minister asked the BRO officials to handover the work to state government if they are unable to make progress in the working.
The minister, while interacting with the officials of different units of the BRO said that he can't see no progress in the working of the BRO.
In reply to the minister's quarry on the reason behind the tardy progress, OC of the 5th RCC Unit of BRO SP Singh said that they could not go ahead with the road improvement work due to the delay in the sanction of fund by the Central authority.
But, now the fund has been sanctioned and road improvement works will be sped up, he said.
Singh further assured that they will start work with immediate effect.
Later, talking to reporters, the minister said that taking serious note on frequent disturbances given along the Imphal-Dimapur section of the NH-39, he along with the CM has been pressing the Centre to release enough funds for developing NH-59 as alternative route to ferry essential goods from outside the state since 2006 .
