Acknowledging the unique qualities of Manipuri pony and its close association with the game of polo, the Postal Department of India has released a postal stamp of pony.
The postal stamp of Manipuri pony which costs Rs 5 was re-released in a simple function organised by the Manipuri Pony Society at Pologround here today.
Speaking at the occasion, general secretary of Manipuri Pony Society N Tombiraj expressed gratitude to the Postal Department on producing a postal stamp of Manipuri pony which he interpreted as recognition of the unique qualities of this rare horse breed which originated from the soil of Manipur.
Tombiraj remarked that Manipuri pony is one of the most rare breed of horse.
Manipuri pony is one of the four indigenous horse breeds of India which were selected by the Government of India to produce postal stamps in their names, Tombiraj said.
Saying that Manipuri pony is characterised by sure-footedness and high endurance besides having a glorious history of its own, Tombiraj appealed to all the people to help in preserving Manipuri pony.
