Two suspected militants were killed in a shoot out with Imphal West police commandos near Lamshang bridge under Lamshang police station today at about 1 pm.
In a statement, Imphal West SP said that aPLA activist, identified as A Nabakumar (30) of Iroishemba Lourembam Leikai was arrested yesterday at about 9.30 pm and information was received today that some underground cadres were operating at Iroishemba Chingol near Laining Khul.
On receipt of this information commandos of Imphal West police rushed to the area.
The police team then came across some unknown armed youths.
The police ordered them to stop but instead of stopping they opened fire from two directions, said the statement and added that the commandos also retaliated.
A gun fight ensued and the two militants were killed while the others escaped.
The two slain persons are yet to be identified and they are about 5 feet 4 inches tall.
Both wore cropped hair, one was attired in a Red Gap T shirt while the other was in a Black Gap T shirt.
It is also yet to be established to which militant groups they belonged to.
The two bodies have been deposited at RIMS for identification and necessary medical procedures.
Police recovered one 9 mm pistol with three live rounds, and 4 point 4 (.38 Special Type) revolver and some spent as well as live bullets were found near the bodies.
