The tension brewing in Senapati district area for the past few days due to the spradic confrontations between two armed outfits took a bloody turn today as four persons were reportedly killed in a fierce gun-fight.
According to sources, the clash erupted in the Koubru range which is under the jurisdiction of Gamnom Sapermeina police station.
The gunfight which started at around 2 pm lasted for nearly an hour.
It is not yet officially known to which group the slain cadres belonged.
However unofficial sources said that the slain cadres belonged to the KNA addding that the gun fight was between a group of KNA on one side and KNF (P) and KRA on the other.
The KRA-KNF (P) combine had a strength of 60/70 cadres while the number of KNA cadres was about 30.The source quoted eyewitnesses of coming across atleast four bodies at the encounter site while informing that Sapermeina police are preparing to retrieve the corpses at daybreak tomorrow and deposit the same at RIMS morgue later in the day.
Mention may be made that on December 13 afternoon cadres of KNF (P) and KNA had engaged in a fierce gun-battle at Sipijang village which is located about 4 kms west of Gamnom Sapermeina PS.
Personnel of 14 AR rushed to the spot after which the militants fled, said the PRO of PIB Defence Wing today.
Shot dead: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a person at around 3.30 pm today at Sikhong area under Yairipok police station.
A team of Yairipok police had left to retrieve the body, said a source while adding that the victim is suspected to belong to the Muslim community.
Meanwhile, 30 year old Salam Jiten of Terakha Ward No 1 who had been absconding after hacking his own son (4 yrs) to death on December 13 night was arrested today.
Jiten was overpowered by Kwatka Santhong villagers at around 7.50 am and subsequently handed over to kumbi police station.
