Imphal, May 24:
Alleged negligence on the part of a nurse resulted in the death of a Tetanus patient at RIMS Isolation Ward this morning at around 10 am, said sources.
According to reports, the incident occured when family members of the Tetanus patient identified as Ashangbam Bino (62) demanded oxygen following deterioration of the patient's condition this morning.
Responding to the demand of the victim's family members, a nurse brought in an oxygen cylinder to be administered to the patient.
However when the nurse tried to put the oxygen mask on to the patient, gas and water started shooting out from the cylinder with a loud sound putting everything inside the room into disarray, added the source.
Shock and stunned at the sudden development, the nurse fled the room never to return again, added the source.
The victim is reported to be from Khurai Soibam Leikai.
The victim was admitted at RIMS Isolation Ward room No 6 on May 21 after she was infected with Tetanus on her injured leg.
Infuriated family members while strongly denouncing the action of the nurse submitted a written statement to the RIMS higher authorities demanding an inquiry as well as appropriate action against the nurse.
Following the incident, all patients at the Isolation Ward vacated their respective rooms and left the hospital looking for alternative places where better facilities can be availed.
On the other hand the compound of the RIMS Isolation Ward is in a mess with tall weeds and grass growing all round making the compound very unhygienic.
