Sports and art and culture of Manipur identify the state and its people before the world.
Therefore, a movement on "Save our playgrounds" has become necessary, affirmed the President of Manipur Olympic Association (MOA), Deputy Chairman, State Planning Board and MLA Bijoy Koijam.
MLA Bijoy Koijam was speaking at the prize distribution ceremony of the 6th Late Th Ibopishak @ Ningthourel Singh Memorial District Level League Cum Knock Out Football Tournament-2010 at Thinungei playground today.
He was the chief guest, Bishnupur MLA, Govindas Konthoujam was the president and Adhyaksha of Bishnupur Zilla Parishad Ksh Sorojini was the guest of honour at the function.

Chief guest of the function, MLA Bijoy Koijam said, the people of Manipur are by birth fond of games and sports, and have a knack of adapting to any kind of sports.
That knack and talents identify Manipur to the world.
Manipur is regarded as the sports house in India, the MLA pointed out.
He said that the Thinungei playground is located at a suitable place just by the side of National Highway.
Therefore, he would try to submit a proposal to the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) to sanction funds of Rs 5/10 crore to develop playground.
He said, "We need to have good playgrounds to produce good sports persons.
We can't play on the roof tops of buildings" .
He would try to give help as much as he can, he said and donated a sum of Rs 10,000 to the organisers of the football tournament which commenced from May 10 .
MLA Govindas Konthoujam, who presided over the function, also assured of all possible help from his side to develop and expand the playground.
He also gave financial assistance to the organisers of the tournament.
