Imphal, October 24 2010:
The JAC for restoration of railway line from Jiribam to Tupul has called a 24 hours Statewide general strike with effect from October 25 midnight since no positive response is in sight from the Government as well as the Ministry of Railway.
The JAC had earlier served an ultimatum to the Government as well as Ministry of Railway to take up necessary precautionary counter measures by October 23 against the ongoing works on the unapproved re-aligned railway line between Jiribam and Tupul.
According to a press release issued by the JAC, the re-alignment was done at the behest of 'Hebron Camp' without knowledge of the State Government.
Expressing surprise at the stoic silence of the State Government and the Ministry of Railway, the JAC said that it would go ahead with its earlier decision of imposing a 24 hours general strike.
This would be followed by gherao of work sites of the ongoing railway project until a positive response is forthcoming from the Government.
After this, indefinite blockades may be imposed on both NH 39 and NH 53, added the release.
