Imphal, July 24:
At least three persons including a top rung leader and his wife are suspected to have been killed in a factional clash of the Kuki Liberation Army yesterday night at a spot in between Bongbal and Rongyang under Yairipok police station.
Though reports of the clash have been doing the round, police have not been able to come out with an official statement on the same and the place where the gun fight took place lies in the interior area.
Sketchy reports received here said that those killed belonged to one faction of the KLA/KLO.
Among those killed may be the spokesman of one of the factions, Thunder Kuki and his second wife.
Another cadre, said to be close to Thunder Kuki and identified as Kingson is also suspected to have been killed in the shoot out.
Unconfirmed reports said that apart from these three, some other cadres of the same faction were also killed in the incident.
Before 2003, Bongbal and Ronyang were under the jurisdiction of Saikul police station.
However later the two villages came under the jurisdiction of Yairipok police station, said a source.
The two villages lie very far from Yairipok PS across hill ranges.
Factionalism arose within the KLA after its commander-in-chief and some of his men were executed in a coup launched by Thunder Kuki and his men some time back.
