A meeting of the State level co-ordinating committee held today in connection with the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in the State has studied on sending law and order reports to the Election Commission by the Superintendents of Police of each district.
The meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Rakesh was also attended by Additional Chief Secretary DS Poonia, DGP Y Joykumar, CEO Sambhu Singh and officials of GAD, Works, PHED, Power, Transport, DIPR, Fire Service, Health, BSNL, Police Wireless and Education Departments.
During the meeting, SPs were instructed to file reports on law and order conditions every day to the CEO for further forwarding to the Election Commission.
The meeting also agreed on Works, Public Health and Power Departments opening control rooms.
The meeting further deliberated on maintaining a good communication network for the Lok Sabha elections.
All Deputy Commissioners were directed to erect ramps for disabled persons in all the polling stations in accordance to the instruction of the Supreme Court.
For the Lok Sabha elections scheduled to be held on April 16 and 22, altogether 1320 polling personnel including 20 percent reserved polling personnel will be used.
Counting of votes for the two Parliamentary seats will be done in 12 centres, informed a source.
Para-military forces to be used for the elections will start arriving at Imphal from Dimapur on March 22. It may be mentioned that 216 security companies were used in the Assembly elections held in 2007. Earlier during the 2004 Parliamentary elections, 79 companies of central para-military forces and 53 companies of State forces were utilised.
Of the total number of 2193 polling stations for the two Parliamentary constituencies, 553 have been identified as hyper sensitive, 1306 as sensitive while 334 have been categorised as normal.
District-wise distribution of polling stations stands as follows, Imphal East--hyper sensitive-74, sensitive 164 and normal-117; Imphal West--hyper sensitive-25, sensitive-241 and normal-103; Bishnupur--hyper sensitive-81, sensitive-110; Thoubal--hyper-sensitive-39 and sensitive-258; Chandel--hyper sensitive-18 and sensitive�57 and normal 47; Ukhrul--hyper-sensitive-28, sensitive 69 and normal-67; Senapati hyper sensitive-105, sensitive 213; Tamenglong--hyper sensitive-72, sensitive 58; and Churachandpur--hyper sensitive 112 and sensitive-136.
