Imphal, March 16 2011:
Demanding unconditional release of one M Landhoni, who is currently in the custody of National Investigative Agency (NIA), Apunba Nupi Lup, Lumangdong (Bishnupur district) has threatened to launch intense agitation in case authorities concerned do not honour the demand.
speaking to newspersons at Manipur Press Club today, Lup president L Nganbi decried the detention of Landhoni on allegedly trumped-up charges by the NIA, when she went to meet her husband at a Guwahati jail some weeks back.
While conceding that arrest of a member of an unlawful organisation is very much within the ambit of law, she questioned as to whether the Indian Constitution prohibits meeting with arrested person(s) .
Contending that since forcible merger of Manipur to the Indian Union, Manipuris had been denied justice and subjected to various forms of atrocities at the hands of security forces, the Lup president opined that Landhoni's case is the most recent testimony of the people of Manipur treated as second-class citizens by the Government of India.

Informing that Landhoni was set free by a Guwahati court after furnishing bail bond only to be re-arrested by NIA sleuths on August 18, 2010, she also mentioned that Landhoni went to Guwahati to meet her husband M Jiten alias Khamba, who is a UNLF functionary.
conveying moral support to M Landhoni, who is currently on hunger strike agitation inside the jail, Nganbi observed that detention of Landhoni is another facet of human rights violation by law enforcing agencies of India.
Reiterating demand for unconditional release of Landhoni, who left an infant in the care of relatives, and asking the State Govt to take up necessary measures for her immediate release, Nganbi said that detention of Landhoni only illustrates perception of the Govt of India that people of Manipur are insurgents.
