ATSUM stir stalls rail work

On account of ATSUM's agitation of ceasing all Central projects, work on the Imphal-Jiribam railway line has been brought to a complete halt.
Private companies working under the North East Frontier Railway have switched off all their machinery lest ATSUM volunteers attack them for defying their agitation, conveyed a reliable source.
ATSUM launched its agitation from the midnight of February 3 raising a number of demands including establishment of Manipur State Commission for ST/SC, restoration of effective governance in hill districts, provision of adequate infrastructure, teachers and staff in schools/colleges located in hill districts, development of necessary infrastructure for Imphal regional campus of IGNTU, proper implementation reservation norms etc.

Urging for the same demands ATSUM earlier imposed 24 hours general strike all over Manipur on January 19.Around 10 private companies are working on the railway project under NF Railway.
Some of the private companies are East Coast Installation, Coastal Project Ltd, Leroy Infra Pvt Ltd, Nayak, Sushi Hi-Tech, Triveni, UAN Max etc and most of these companies are engaged in boring and constructing of tunnels between Jiri and Tupul.
Jiri-Tupul railway line is divided into two sections.
While Tupul-Khongsang section is handled by Imphal office of NF Railway, Khongsang-Jiri section is handled by NF Railway's Silchar office.
However, there is no report as of now about any untoward incident targeting NF Railway officials or the private companies in connection with the ATSUM's agitation.
