Imphal, June 29 2010:
Decrying the threats on one Professor of RIMS over monetary demand from one KCP-MC faction, doctors and staff of the medical institute today staged a Wakat Meepham.
It is said that one faction of the KCP-MC reportedly threatened Dr Laishram Joychand, who is a Professor in the Radiotherapy Department of RIMS, for failing to meet its monetary demand.
Following the threats from the UG group, Dr Joychand has gone out of the State for around 15 days.
Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent of RIMS Dr Y Mohen Singh has informed that the threat of the UG group has had an adverse impact on the activities of the institute, more particularly, in the treatment of cancer patients.
A large number of doctors and staff of the medical institute participated in the protest demonstration held after 1 pm.
However, it was ensured that the protest demonstration did not affect the normal functioning of the hospital.
Placards with slogans like 'Nobody on earth should disturb hospitals', 'We condemn the extortion notices served on doctors', 'Let RIMS progress and develop', 'Do not disturb', etc were used by the protesting doctors and staff.
RIMS had earlier come under bomb attacks and have had to face numerous pressures from different quarters, including a number of armed groups.
