Last rites of journalist Dwijamani performed

The last rites of Thangjam Dwijamani, who was killed in police firing while covering the incident of indefinite Manipur bandh on December 23, was performed at his home place, Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai yesterday.
The body had been remaining at the mortuary of RIMS till December 24 and it was taken by the family yesterday only after the JAC formed against the killing and the State Government arrived at an understanding in the evening of December 24 .
Prior to performance of the last rites, the body was brought from the mortuary of RIMS to Manipur Press Club at Major Khul where floral tributes were paid to the departed soul by the journalist fraternity, film artistes and many other personalities from different walks of life including Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh.

The procession from RIMS passed through Nagamapal, Khuyathong, Western Kangla Gate, Kangla Park Traffic Island crossing and assembled at Manipur Press Club, where Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh led in offering floral tributes.
The Chief Minister was followed by his Cabinet Ministers, Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly, MLAs, volunteers of various CSOs including AMUCO, UCM, Meira Paibis, members of All Manipur Pvt School Welfare Association; journalist fraternity and the public.
Home Minister Gaikhangam; Minister of Social Welfare AK Mirabai, Agriculture Minister Md Abdul Nasir; Parliamentary Secretary Prithviraj; MLA Kh Joykishan, etc were among those present on the occasion.
After offering floral tributes, the body was taken to his home place at Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai where the last rites were performed.
Thangjam Dwijamani alias Nanao alias Lagao, is the youngest among five siblings born to late Th Babu of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai.
He was a stringer of Doordarshan Kendra, Guwahati.
Earlier, he used to work for Prime News, a news channel based at Guwahati.
He is survived by his wife and two children, one 2-year old son and the other around a year old daughter.
