Two women who were rounded up on alleged charge of shoplifting from a vendor selling cloths inside temporary market shed of Khwairamband Bazar have been handed over to the city police.
According to some women vendors, the accused identified as Khumanthem Ningol Memcha (50) of Khongjom Laikon Leikai and Moirangthem Ningol Romita (39) of Khongjom Bazar Maning were rounded up while stealing six pieces of Muga suit worth Rs 3500 per piece by taking advantage of the busy shopping for Ningol Chakkouba.
The City police was contacted and the two women were handed over to the police as some people started beating them up, the women vendors said, adding that this was not the first case of shoplifting in the temporary market shed.
It is said that the two women shoplifters did not appear repentant when they were caught and beaten up but retorted back saying how they are supposed to feed their children without stealing.
According to information received from the City Police, the two women have been separated from their respective husbands and staying in their maternal homes.
Both of them are also running drinking joints.
They have also been caught for shoplifting and handed over to the City police earlier.
