Spl Juvenile Police to probe into student's assault case

Juvenile Justice Board directed police to probe the assault of a class 6 student of St Joseph School by his computer teacher Gurumayum Rupachandra.
The board also informed that the offence has been committed by Gurumayum Rupachandra, the computer teacher.
Under Rule 10 (b) of the Juvenile Justice Act (Care and Protection of Children) Rules 2007, the special Juvenile Police Unit, Lamphel Police Station was directed to investigate the case, informed the Juvenile Justice Board, Imphal West.
Mention may also be made that 16 members of the student body DESAM including its president Moirangthem Angamba were arrested by Imphal Police Station for assaulting the teacher Gurumayum Rupachandra.
They were produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West and remanded till June 23 .
Besides the act of the police in arresting the members of DESAM who punished the teacher like the way he punished the student was protested by various students' unions and student community.
A sit-in protest was staged at Anand Singh Higher Secondary School and Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School Uripok where the students asked to free the arrested DESAM members as they are not at fault.
The students also demanded the arrest the teacher who bashed up the class 6 student of St Joseph School.
They also suggested to keep properly trained teachers only in the schools.
The DM College of Arts Students Union has strongly condemned the arrest of 16 DESAM volunteers and urged to take necessary steps against Gurumayum Rupachandra Sharma instead.
A press statement released by the Union has asked the Govt.not to invite mass movement by arresting volunteers of DESAM unreasonably.
A student of Class VI was beaten up with stick more than 50 times for answering "Yes" when the teacher asked "Will you maintain silence?", it added.
The decision taken by DESAM against punishing the student was right thing in the current academic atmosphere.
It also said that it is very much unfortunate to remand the volunteers till June 23 and suspected it to be an act of high level manipulation to sabotage mass campaigns and rallies which will be organized at different parts of Manipur to make education free zone from July 2-5.It further appealed to the Govt.to release the volunteers soon.
In another press note, Ghanapriya Women's College Students' Union has strongly appealed the authorities to release the 16 DESAM Volunteers who were apprehended by Imphal police within 24 hours.
A Sangita, General Secretary, GPWC Students' Union in a press statement said that the arrest of volunteers is not reasonable at all due to which any activities taken up by DESAM will be fully supported by GPWC Students Union, it added.
Students' union of DM College of Commerce also condemns the act of police in raiding the office of students' organisation, DESAM.
It also alleged that the police are showing off their strength against innocent members of the students' body urged to release the arrested members of DESAM.
