33 % subsidy to weavers on power loom machines

To promote the power loom industry in Manipur, the state government is considering inclusion of giving 33 percent subsidy to weavers buying power loom machine in its yearly plan.
Speaking at the inaugural function of Buyers' and Sellers' Meet being organised by Power Loom Development and Export Promotion Council, Textile Commissioner, Kolkata under the sponsorship of Commerce and Industries Department, Government of Manipur and IGIRA Power Loom Service Centre, Guwahati, at Hotel Classic here today, Principal Secretary of Commerce and Industries O Nabakishore observed that it is a good opportunity for the women weavers of the state that such type of Buyers' and Sellers' meets are being organized.
This is indeed the first step towards establishment of a Power Loom industry in the state.
Nabakishore informed that the state government is planning to set up a Power Loom industry in the state.
Individuals who like to start a power loom industry of their own would be assisted by the government.
Keeping this in mind, the state government has been sending weavers of the state for training in other parts of the country.
If all these trained weavers set up their own power loom machines, then the power loom industry in the state would be surely developed.
He also informed that a Textile Park is being developed at Loitang Khunou which would act as a market place for the power loom products.
The inaugural function of the Buyers' and Sellers' Meet was attended by Bharat Chajer, Chairman, Power Loom Service Centre, Guwahati and Ketar Shangvi as President and Guest of Honour respectively.
The meet would continue till February 17 .
