Manipur State Legal Services Authority, Imphal today observed National Legal Services Day with a function at District and Session Court Complex, Uripok under the theme "Justice is truth" .
Judge Gauhati High Court and MASLSA's executive chairman Justice T Nandakumar who spoke as chief guest in the function stressed on the need of keeping an equal view to all people irrespective of caste, creed, colour and sex.
He asserted that the Constitution of India is the supreme law of the country.
The fundamental rights enshrined in the Constitution are meant to be enjoyed by all sections of the people whether poor and rich.
Reiterating on the purpose and objective of the Legal Service Authorities in the country, he said the poorer sections of the society should be delivered legitimate justice.
The authorities set up under Legal Services Act also aim to provide legal services free of cost to the poor and weakers sections of the society.
Justice should be delivered to them by taking only nominal fees.
In order to achieve the objectives of being legal service authorities, lok adalats, legal literacy and awareness programmes are being conducting.
But to achieve success support of all is a must, Nandakumar said.
District and Session Judge Ph Surendra who is also member secretary of the Manipur State Legal Services Authority speaking as president of the function recalled that legal services authorities in each state in the country were constituted on this day in 1995 under the Legal Service Authority Act enacted in 1987 .
National Legal Services Day is also being observed on this day to mark the day.
